How I got to meet Big Mac
It all started in the summer of 97 when some friends and I went white water rafting in Ottawa. At
the time it was the off-season for hockey and I was thinking that I was not going to play hockey
anymore. The first night we were at the resort my buddy and I, 12 at the time, where playing
hockey on the tennis court, when the huge 6'8 McKenna came up to me and asked if they could
join. We said yes and were playing for about 5 min when Steve's friend said my buddy that Steve
played in the NHL. I said, "Oh, really? Who is he?" After they told me the name I was like, "Ok,
never herd of him before." Then I took a slap shot and McKenna laid down to block it. It hit him
right in the forehead he shook it off. After the game he bought my buddy and I a cookie. Then
went to talk to his buddy when a guard told us to leave. That's when McKenna came up and said,
"They're with me." The guard, half McKenna's size, walked off. That's when we got to talk with
him. He was a really nice guy to talk to. Steve and his buddies went rafting without a guide and I
saw pics of these guys flying out of the raft when they went down the rapids. I said some things
to Steve I regret... but would really like to contact him someday. He as inspired me a lot with my
game. In the 1998-99 season I got a chance to see him play in Toronto. After the game I waited
to see him and ask if he remembered me, but he just ran on to the bus. In the 1999-2000 season I
was in Montreal to see him play the Habs. After the game I went looking for him. I had a big
wooden sign that said "7 MCKENNA" and I stood outside this place where the team was talking
to family. Fiset saw me and laughed. I hope he told Steve
